Sustainability & Investing

Climate change is one of the biggest issues facing humanity today and pressure for environmental and social change continues to gather momentum. This increased awareness has prompted many people not only to question what impact actions by large organisations can have on the environment, but also to examine, what they can do personally.

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) refers to non-financial performance indicators, which measure the ethical and sustainable impact of an investment. These indicators can be used to evaluate corporate behaviour and to determine the long-term financial performance prospects of a company.

  • £1bn

ESG inflows average over £1bn a month in 2020

  • 80%

80% of companies now report on sustainability

The heightened awareness of such factors has evolved to include investment preferences and ESG investments have traversed from niche products firmly into the mainstream. Although ESG investing has become much more popular in recent times, it has been a core part of the advice we have been able to offer our clients for many years and we understand the importance clients place on having such principles considered when investing.

Our expertise tells us that research is key, because although a company’s mission statement may reflect the values and beliefs of an investor, their practices may differ. We also understand how ESG investing can be incorporated into a portfolio and remain aware of the fact that selecting investments based on ethics offers no guarantee of performance.

The value of investments can go down as well as up and you may not get back the full amount you invested. The past is not a guide to future performance and past performance may not necessarily be repeated.
